Mahjong Scoring System: How to Earn More Points
Mahjong features different scoring systems, but the core idea remains the same: the more complex your hand, the higher your score! Here’s a breakdown of the basic point structure:
Standard Scoring Rules
π Basic Win β A regular winning hand earns 10 points.
π Pong of Dragons or Winds β Completing a Pong (three identical tiles) of dragon or wind tiles gives 10-20 points, depending on the set.
π¨ Pure Suit Combination β A hand consisting entirely of one suit (e.g., all bamboo or all characters) is highly valuable, awarding 40-80 points.
π€« Secret Hands β Special hands, such as those made entirely of Pongs, can be worth 50+ points.
π² Self-Drawn Win β If you win by drawing your own final tile (instead of claiming a discard), your total score doubles (2x multiplier)!
Winning & Payouts
When a player declares βMahjongβ, opponents must pay them points or follow the game’s betting rules. Different Mahjong variations have unique scoring methods, but the core principle is simple: the player with the highest-value hand or the first to declare βMahjongβ is the winner!
Master your strategy, build high-scoring hands, and dominate the game! π
